Description of the procedure
Eyelid correction is most often performed for people over 35 years old. If you have pronounced asymmetry of the eyelids, early facial wrinkles or bags under the eyes, then blepharoplasty is indicated at an earlier age. The effect is achieved in 2 ways: remove adipose tissue or excise excess skin. The operation itself is divided into 3 types:
- Blepharoplasty of the upper eyelids
- Blepharoplasty of the lower eyelids (transconjunctival).
- Circular plastic/orbicular blepharoplasty
Plastic surgeons combine these manipulations with combined defects.
Indications and contraindications are:
Indications for plastics:
- mimic wrinkles, excess skin;
- local fat protrusion;
- lowered corners of the eyes;
- the presence of bags under the eyes.
Blepharoplasty is also performed if the patient wants to change shape or incision of the eyes.
Contraindications to the correction are divided into local and general. The local are elevated intraocular pressure (glaucoma), conjunctivitis, blepharitis, and neoplasms in the area of intervention.
General contraindications are the same as for other plastic surgeries: a severe course of chronic diseases, acute infectious diseases, intolerance to anesthesia, bleeding disorders, pregnancy, and lactation.
Eyelid correction process description
The operation begins with a skin marking in the area of intervention and antiseptic measures. Surgical access depends on the type of operation and the goal set:
- correction of the lower eyelid – a cut on the inner mucosa of the lower eyelid;
- correction of the upper eyelid – access is carried out in the natural folds of the eyes;
- local fat removal – an incision is made from the side of the conjunctiva.
These accesses do not leave visible scars, so they are not visible to other people. Next, the surgeon performs the main part of the intervention: removes fat and excess skin, corrects the incision of the eye, performs a circular tightening or adjusts the lacrimal gland. The incision is sutured with cosmetic stitches. The patient comes out of anesthesia and in a couple of hours can leave the clinic.
Blepharoplasty results
The effect of blepharoplasty is evaluated in approximately 2 months. During this time, swelling of the eyelids and postoperative hematomas is coming off, a scar and a natural eye section are formed. The result from blepharoplasty lasts for 8-10 years – it all depends on the individual characteristics of the body and the care of the area around the eyes after surgery. You can view patient reviews and photos before and after the procedure on our website.
Rehabilitation period and aftercare
Rehabilitation after blepharoplasty usually lasts from 7 to 10 days. In the postoperative period, swelling of the eyelids, hematomas in the surgical access area, discomfort and pain when blinking often appears. To minimize these manifestations and prevent the development of complications, the following recommendations should be followed:
- the first 3 days – apply cold lotions on the area of the eyelid, apply ointment against swelling around the eyes, use liquids not more than 3 liters per day;
- the first month – avoid physical exertion, mechanical damage and overheating of the eyelid area, as well as refusing to visit the solarium and the beach.
