Contraindications to facial plastic surgery
Facial plastic surgery has a number of general and local contraindications. Procedures are prohibited if the patient has:
– diabetes;
– acute infectious process in the body;
– negative body reaction to anesthesia;
– blood clotting disorders;
– pathologies of the cardiovascular or respiratory system;
– autoimmune and oncological diseases.
Also, plastic surgery is undesirable for women during pregnancy and lactation.
Local contraindications depend on the type of procedure and the area. These include:
– glaucoma, conjunctivitis (for blepharoplasty);
– frequent, profuse nosebleeds (for rhinoplasty);
– any neoplasms at the surgical site;
– rashes on the skin of different origin.
The decision on the possibility of the operation is made after a thorough history and consultation of both related specialists and the surgeon who will be performing the operation.
How is surgery performed on the face
Regardless of the type of operation, the area of intervention is treated with an antiseptic, and then one of the types of anesthesia is performed:
- a) local anesthesia – for otoplasty, lipofilling, and laser liposuction;
- b) general anesthesia – for performing rhino- and blepharoplasty.
At the request of the patient and in the absence of contraindications, local anesthesia may be replaced by general anesthesia.
Surgical access to the treated area depends on the type of operation, its goals, and the intervention level, with which the duration of the chosen procedure is also associated – from 40 minutes to 2 hours.
Facial plastic surgery, in addition to traditional methods, provides non-invasive methods, in particular, circular/orbital lifting using Silhouette Soft threads, as well as the most benign methods of performing operations using neodymium, carbon dioxide or solid-state laser.
At the end of all necessary procedures, if there is a need, seams and bandages are applied. After recovering from anesthesia and receiving all the recommendations for the aftercare during the rehabilitation period, the patient may leave the clinic.
Duration of rehabilitation
Depending on the complexity of the procedure, the rehabilitation period can be from 3-5 days to 3 weeks and in most cases excludes:
– saunas and hot baths;
– visit to the solarium, the beach;
– physical exercising;
– smoking and drinking alcohol.
